THE REALTIONSHIP BETWEEN TWO POINTS-EXERCISE

OBJECTIVE

Brief description of the relationship between two objects in a photograph

The simple composition of the statues are enhanced by the fact that both are in
silhouelette against the background. As the front statue is closer it seems to be much bigger than the background column. You do seem to lose a sense of perpective and it is difficult to tell the distance between the two subjects. This image was take with a standard lens.

This composition is also simple but the two subjects seem to mirror each
other which creates symmetry and pattern within the composition. The vertical lines of both the wood in the foreground and the mast of the boats, complement each other. The image also works as there are two boats and two pieces of wood. I think the image would look un balanced as for example one boat would look lost against the dynamic foreground shapes.

The above photograph shows the relationship between two identical shapes. I think the composition works as the trees both mirror each other identically, unlike the second image where the mirror images are complementary of each other. It also helps the composition as the trees are leaning the same way, which heightens the sense of them being weathered by the elements. I think the composition is also aided by the the perspective shows that the trees are on a bank.

The above abstract image of two stones in a mirror lake , shows the contrast of shape and sizes of the two stones. The reflected cloud adds to this abstract composition. Below is an example of taking the same composition in portrait frame.
