photograph a shiny surface and firstly show the reflections caused
by the background.
Use a diffuse such as a tracing paper to cut out these reflections
and show the difference between the two images.
Original set up showing the reflection of
the camera and the background
the next set up shows some the backdrop
diffused by blocking the backdrop with
a white board.
complete diffusion by placing
diffusing paper around the subject
and camera
I did knock the spoon over why
taking the image!
Re shot showing the reflections
blocked by the white diffusion paper
I set up a new image shooting down onto the subject
to show the quality of light and reflection levels
by placing the diffuser over the top of the subject
I set up a more reflected
surface. It was also larger in shape
which meant I required more diffusion.
The initial set up shows there are both
reflections in the foreground and
the background of the subject.
I struggled to get the tracing
paper to stay around the camera
as the object was larger than the
first.
I tried by diffusing the light and placing a
white reflector card on the opposite side
to the light.
I also placed a white backdrop behind the
camera and set up a remote
sync to take the image.
It has diffused the light but the
refection is still noticeable and very
visible in the final image.
COMMENTS
I have now researched this subject more
and have now purchased a diffusion
dome which is used professionally and will
take this image again and will update the
log online when this arrives.
Be aware of all reflections when taking images of
shinny subjects
UPDATED
I now have a diffusion dome and have
now re shot the images
The dome as reduced the reflections and
has allowed to take proper images
I will now use the tent in assignment 4
when photographing the object for colour.
This soft light will enhance the colour of the
subject and will allow me to capture full
tone and colour saturation as the light
will not burn out the colour of the object.
