PHOTOGRAPHIC NOISE- LONDON NIGHT SHOOT

I tried a hand held night shoot in London experimenting with ISO levels
to see the effect and the level of noise captured

hand held
iso 1600
f4.2 1/40sec

I have processed this image by adding in light into the foreground
and isolating the foreground in photoshop and moving the curve
to increase the light in the foreground

You can clearly see the pixelation effect of the high ISO on the
fore ground area.

the sharpness of the image was affected by the wide
aperture but the noise on the pillar is caused by the increased
iso

this abstract image of the festival hall was shot at ISO 1600
hand held 1/40sec f 4.5

the grain detail is clearly visible in the red tungsten lit walls

though as the image is made up on mostly dark tones the grain
effect is less visible and therefore when the image is enlarged
is less visible.

ISO 1600
f 4.5
120 sec

reprocessed by adding light via level adjustment in
Photoshop.

The grain effect adds to the this image as it creates
some additional abstract on this image.

It also is enhanced by the florescent lighting.

the image quality is significantly effected by the level of noise in this
image. The level of detail has been lost on the right side of the image

above I have used the despeckel filter to reduce the
number of pixels to reduce the noise in this image

iso 1600

f 4.5

this high contrast image taken of the silver birch in front of the Tate
modern London South Bank.

I wanted to process this image in mono as I think it enhances the overall
image

I also like the addition of noise in this image as it adds to the final
composition and can appear as grain in the black and white film
image.

I tried to sharpen this image in Photoshop but by doing this it sharpens
the additional pixels and makes these pixels sharper but also more visible
so I removed this from the layers.

Night images taken with Tripod.

I have also taken more images in the same location
but this time used a tripod so I could reduce the need
to shoot at a higher ISO and also control both aperture
and shutter speed.

The overall image quality also improved
