BLACK AND WHITE FILTERS

Objective to demonstrate the use of filters and there affect on black and white
imaging

Filters allow the photographer to control the level of contrast
when taking a monochrome image. They restrict the colour of light that is
related to its colour. Monochrome images are made up of a series of
grey tones. Using filters changes that tonal range and also increases
contrast levels.Using filters also allows you to capture details.
For example as using red allows you to capture detail of blue skies

BASE MONOCHROME WITH NO FILTER

RED FILTER

It's the red filter that has a serious effect on tones.
Red and orange are now almost white while the deep red displays
similar values to the original orange. While the blue and green
have become very dark.

GREEN FILTER
The green filter can be seen affecting the blue and green
which become much lighter while the red go darker

BLUE FILTER
The blue filter has a similar effect on colours, making reds and oranges
become a touch darker and blues and greens slightly lighter.

YELLOW FILTER
Adding a yellow filter introduces a subtle change to to yellows,
oranges and red which become slightly lighter.

LEARNING NOTES/COMMENTS

Assess the colour's available when taking an image. Visualize the tonal range and filters required
to capture the most detail and contrast levels, when proposing to process the image as a
monochrome photograph.
